We are now looking for a Canteen Assistant to join our Kitchen Team.

Your role

As Canteen Assistant you are responsible for running and maintaining our Staff Canteen; you will be in charge of supervising and overseeing the canteen, ensuring that each food service runs smoothly, cleaning and maintaining the canteen area, and operating under the guidance of your Supervisor to ensure it is in inspection ready condition in accordance with local authority and hotel guidelines.

You will have a flexible and hands-on operational approach in order to prioritise work and stay composed under pressurised situations, and a present, helpful and positive attitude toward your team and colleagues across other departments. The responsibilities of our Canteen Assistant include:

  • Clean replenish food, clear tables, restock plates and wipe the servery
  • Clean tables, empty bins, replenish coffee & tea / salt & pepper / napkins etc.
  • Top up breakfast items, salads, fruit bowl
  • Serve hot food between 11.00–14.00 and 16.00–21:00 daily
  • Monitoring portion and controlling waste to maintain profit margins
  • Making sure you are set up in a timely manner for both lunch and dinner service
  • Ability to walk, stand and/or bend continuously to perform essential job functions
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with busy periods
  • Positive attitude to staff dining room and staff welfare
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Health & Safety requirements; ensure cooking equipment is properly operated, cleaned and maintained, then reported if faulty in the correct way
  • Logging all reheat temperatures of hot food in line with HACCP procedures and file on a daily basis in the chef’s office
  • Update allergens sheet on a daily/weekly basis
  • Cleaning down of server and equipment and sanitizing of all surfaces once clean
  • Making sure the canteen is clean, well maintained and a welcoming environment
  • Maintaining hand wash facilities (hand soap, Hand sanitizer, blue roll)
  • Being H&S conscious while cleaning down all areas

Prior experience as a Canteen Assistant or in a Kitchen is key, you will also have a natural flair for service and be able to build genuine relationships with our staff and departments. In addition to this you will also need…

  • A proven background related to this role, ideally gained in a similar ‘Lifestyle’ or boutique hotel sector
  • A flexibility approach to working hours with the ability to work shifts including, evenings and weekends
  • Good level of English
  • Good understanding of health & safety, manual handling and COSHH
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
  • To be highly motivated and pro-active; act with professionalism and positivity in all interactions
