Our returning clients are seeking a professional and experienced Live-in Travelling Housekeeper to join their formal, fully staffed private estate in Oxfordshire.
This role entails working as part of a small team of housekeepers and in close coordination with the Head Housekeeper, Head Butler, Lady’s Maid, and other staff. A high level of discretion, initiative, and attention to detail is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Opening up the property each morning (lights, curtains, debris removal)
- Observing and replacing light bulbs as needed (or escalating to relevant team)
- Preparing breakfast trays if required (in absence of Butler/Lady’s Maid)
- Maintaining a clean and organised laundry room
- Managing laundering and pressing of Principal’s garments, guest laundry, bed and table line
- Arranging dry cleaning and maintaining laundry logs
- Operating and maintaining humidifiers during colder months
- Respecting household routines (e.g. vacuuming only after residents are awake)
- Regular vacuuming and cleaning of staircases and landings
- Laying and cleaning fires in Principal and guest rooms (as needed)
- Changing bed linen every four day
- Cleaning internal windows and threshold
- Closing down the property each evening (curtains, lights, appliances)
- Cleaning of multiple estate accommodations
- Logging damages and overseeing repairs
- Winding household clocks
- Stock management of cleaning products and toiletries
- Monitoring and managing light bulb inventory
- Daily restocking of water jugs (bottled water)
- Ensuring cleanliness of dog areas and feeding stations when in use
- Cleaning and preparing fires across the property
- Maintaining order in communal and utility spaces (Laundry, Gun Room, Boot Room, Flower Room)
- Ensuring staff areas are clean and presentable
- Assisting the Lady’s Maid during absences and understanding her routines
- Performing thorough deep cleaning when the family is awa
- Supporting floral arrangements and houseplants in coordination with the Head Butler
- Occasional evening assistance during formal dinners
- Reporting any unusual activity or incidents to Security or Estate Office
- Running errands and shopping as required
- Preparing simple family-style meals on occasion
- Shoe and boot cleaning (in Butler’s absence)
- Ordering flowers (as per established protocol
- Flexibility to assist out of hours if Principals return late
- Polishing wooden floors with housekeeping tea
- High dusting and thorough fridge/freezer cleans
This position ideally would suite a candidate who has no commitments due to the travelling nature. The travelling staff don't travel continuously and there are multiple travelling team members to offer respite, but there will be regular travel to Switzerland, Scotland, South of France, Australia and more and the family are often away over Christmas and New Year so working/being away over the holiday season is likely.
The area is fairly rural and although driving is not a pre-requisite for the job, driving would be advantageous so you can get to the shops etc. A pool car is provided for work purposes only and not for personal use.
The ideal candidate must have prior experience in a similar housekeeping role within an UHNW/VIP private household, demonstrating excellent skills and attention to detail. The candidate should feel comfortable living on-site and maintaining a close working relationship with the Principals and other household staff.
Accommodation: Private accommodation provided (no pets or partners/dependants)
Working days/hours: Hours of work are based upon a 5-day week (rostered in advance,
weekend availability is a must). Two different shift patterns: 07.30-12:00 and or 09.00-12:00 and
Salary: £50K - £55K gross per year (based on experience and skills set)
Unless otherwise specified a minimum of 3 years relevant experience is required to receive the advertised rate of pay
