Cleaning Supervisor

Cleaning Supervisor, Temporary, 35 hours per week (6:00am-2:00pm Mon to Fri), £16.00 per hour, 1 month with a possible extension to 2 months

We are recruiting a Cleaning Supervisor on behalf of a leading London university. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected institution with a strong sense of community, where you will play a key role in delivering high-quality cleaning and facilities services across the campus.

Reporting to the Head of Housekeeping Services, you will supervise a team of cleaning staff within a designated group of buildings. Your role will ensure that high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety are consistently maintained in line with service level agreements. You’ll act as a hands-on working supervisor, supporting daily operations, audits, and the continuous improvement of services.

This is a people-facing role requiring excellent communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. You’ll also contribute to key priorities including health and safety compliance, environmental sustainability, and inclusive practices.

• Supervise a team of cleaners, ensuring daily operations meet service standards
• Monitor cleaning quality through audits and staff feedback
• Maintain regular contact with building users to anticipate cleaning needs and respond to service requests
• Assist with induction, training, and development of cleaning staff
• Ensure effective stock control and safe use of cleaning chemicals
• Promote a safe working environment, adhering to Health & Safety and COSHH regulations
• Support team communication, rota planning, and absence management
• Attend training, contribute to meetings, and promote sustainability across the estate

You will have previous experience as a Cleaning Supervisor or similar role, with sound knowledge of health and safety practices. You’ll enjoy working in a busy environment, have a keen eye for detail, and be confident managing routine and ad hoc demands.

Essential:

• Experience supervising cleaning staff in a similar setting
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Knowledge of COSHH and manual handling procedures
• IT-literate and confident completing records and reports
• Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks
• Good level of spoken and written English

Desirable:

• NVQ Level 2/BTEC in Cleaning (or willingness to complete)
• IOSH Working Safely or similar qualification
• Experience working in a university or large public building
• Customer service experience
