We’re on the hunt for an experienced Head of Cleaning & Waste Management to oversee waste management operations within an iconic venue in London. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing waste reduction strategies, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and fostering a culture of sustainability within the venue and with clients for their events.

The Head of Cleaning and Waste Management will be responsible for ensuring cleanliness, safety and environmental compliance across the business and for the continual improvement and strategic direction of the Cleaning and Waste Management proposition. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in managing large scale cleaning operations, waste management and implementing sustainable practices.Please note: this is a strategic, senior level cleaning and waste management role, not a Cleaning Manager position. We will only be considering candidates with the level of relevant experience required for the role.

Responsibilities as the Head of Cleaning and Waste Management:

  • Leading, mentoring and managing teams effectively, including hiring, training, coaching and performance evaluating to continue to attract and retain a high calibre team
  • Creating and delivering a long-term vision for the C&W Management teams
  • Producing regular reports and updates and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Analysing performance metrics and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Managing planning, budgeting, forecasting and cost control for cleaning supplies, equipment, waste management and 3rd party staff schedules
  • Maximising the potential ancillary revenues throughout the planning cycle, directly impacting the financial performance of the business
  • Monitoring and enforcing compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, regularly updating and analysing risk assessments and method statements related to Cleaning and Waste Management
  • Implementing sustainable practices to reduce waste generation, increasing recycling rates and minimising environmental impact
  • Conducting regular inspections to ensure cleanliness, sanitation and proper waste disposal practices throughout
  • Forward planning to establish a Planned Preventative Maintenance programme for annual / biannual cleaning regimes
  • Developing and implementing Cleaning and Waste Management policies, procedures and standards to always ensure a high-quality service delivery
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensuring understanding of their Cleaning and Waste Management needs and expectations
  • Evaluating event success and effectiveness through debriefs, analysis and feedback subsequently implementing improvements for future events
  • Effectively managing teams shift schedules alongside the Operations Planning Manager, actively planning & scheduling to ensure staff welfare

What we're looking for:

  • Proven leadership experience in Cleaning and Waste Management in a similar, large scale environment (ideally a large venue / events space)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of sustainability principles and experience implementing sustainable practices in cleaning and waste management
  • Strong knowledge of waste management practices, environmental regulations and industrial scale cleaning techniques
  • Budget management and forecasting experience
  • Ability to liaise confidently and effectively with stakeholders
  • Ability to monitor and enforce compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Experienced in updating and analysing risk assessments and method statements
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex situations and make strategic decisions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities whilst maintaining longer term strategic focus
