Chief Maintenance Engineer

Are you an experienced Chief Maintenance Engineer looking for a prestigious hotel property to manage?

We have an opening for a Chief Maintenance Engineer to join us at De Vere Wokefield Estate near Reading. De Vere Wokefield Estate has 376 bedrooms spread across 3 buildings including an iconic mansion house, 39 meeting and event spaces and 3 restaurants.

As our Chief Maintenance Engineer, you’ll lead a team of 15, including a Maintenance Manager, Supervisor, engineers, operatives, and painters. You’ll be responsible for the upkeep of all buildings and facilities, ensuring exceptional standards of repair, safety, and presentation.

This role combines hands-on technical knowledge, team leadership, and strategic project oversight. You’ll manage reactive and planned maintenance, liaise with external contractors, control stock, and oversee all M&E installations. Crucially, you’ll play a key part in maintaining the high standards our guests expect while ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation.

What we are looking for from our next Chief Maintenance Engineer:
• Proven experience in hotel maintenance or in a similar environment (e.g. large care homes, estates, or resorts)
• A confident and motivational team leader who can develop and engage their team
• Strong organisational and project management skills – able to juggle priorities in a fast-paced, operationally busy property
• IOSH qualification (desirable)
• Experience overseeing Pool Plant operations (desirable)
