We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer (Internally known as Infrastructure Analyst – Networks) to join our dynamic team where you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining our organization's network infrastructure. This 18m FTC opportunity will see you responsible for managing the delivery of networking and infrastructure services across the Mitchells & Butlers estate, providing our support centres, pubs and restaurants and our mobile employees with the best possible service whilst ensuring the estate has the best possible Wi-Fi and broadband solutions available.
You will be a subject matter expert and work in partnership with our internal Service & Systems, Architecture, Security & Governance teams to implement standards and policies, and ensure compliance against agreed standards and policies. You’ll be part of a wider team of internal Infrastructure specialists, reporting into the Technical Services Manager and will also be working closely with a variety of third-party vendors across the estate.

This is a hybrid working role with a mixture of working from home and our Birmingham City Centre Head Office.

What will I be doing in this Network Engineer role?
- Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor network performance and proactively resolve network-related problems across the business to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Network Infrastructure Management: Maintain Mitchells & Butlers local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks. Support core network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, access points and VPN solutions. Collaborate with relevant teams to ensure smooth integration of network systems with other infrastructure components.
- Vendor Management: Collaborate with 3rd party vendors to troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues across the Mitchells & Butlers estate.
- Security: Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, vulnerabilities, and potential threats. Provide relevant support relating to security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing to identify and address security risks.
- Capacity Planning: Monitor network capacity and performance trends and make recommendations for capacity upgrades or modifications to meet evolving business needs. Analyse network traffic patterns and optimize network configurations to improve overall efficiency and performance.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including network diagrams, configuration details, and standard operating procedures. Where applicable generate reports on network performance, incidents, and security threats. Provide insights and recommendations based on network analytics and trends.
What do I need to bring to this Network Engineer role?

- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Network Analyst or Engineering role within the IT industry, delivering the following:
- Corporate Office and Retail Network connectivity (both LAN and WAN)
- Remote Access Services for internal and external users (SSL & IPSEC VPN's)
- Wi-Fi Infrastructure and Guest Wi-Fi services
- Network Access Security (inc Wi-Fi & VLANs)
- IPv4 protocol support
- Network Capacity Management, including Bandwidth Management & Forecasting
- Firewall Management & Auditing
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of managing and supporting the following technologies and applications:
- Meraki switches, routers and wireless access points
- ADSL2+, VDSL, FTTP & EAD Circuits
- FortiGate firewalls & IPSEC VPN Appliances
- Ivanti (PSA 5000 Appliance) SSL VPN
- ServiceNow, Sentinel, Ekahau Pro & Wireshark
- Experience of working in a large, multi-layered organisation, is highly desirable.
- Experience of successfully managing concurrent and multiple demands.
- Sound ability to build, develop and grow strong stakeholder relationships.
