Assistant Greenkeeper

Wentworth Club is one of the world’s finest private members Golf and Country Clubs, famous for its outstanding three Championship golf courses, in addition to a luxury Tennis & Health Club. The Club is surrounded and entwined within the Wentworth Estate, one of the most prestigious private estates in the London suburbs where many of the world’s premier golfers have their home.
To maintain the golf courses to the highest greenkeeping throughout the year, by following SOP guidelines and senior staff instructions. To be an example to the trainees in the team and lead by example and encouraging these standards of greenkeeping across the rest of the department.
Full-time 40 hours per week £27,000 per annum, plus paid overtime and BIGGA Membership
Key Accountabilities:
• Play an active part as a crew member.
• To lead by example and encourage best working practices to the rest of the team.
• You will be expected to have some knowledge of the plant machinery used for specific tasks and ensure that they are utilised in the correct manner to comply with the Health and Safety regulations whilst in operation and washed down, greased, oiled and stored after operation.
• To report breakdowns and advise your Head Greenkeeper of requirements to run the site effectively to an expected high standard.
• To ensure all areas are properly laid out and prepared for members and visitors to the Club. A very high standard of presentation is required at all times.
Experience & Qualification:
3 years greenkeeping experience or 1-year experience with NVQ level 2 in greenkeeping (or equivalent)
General Responsibilities:
A fully trained, qualified assistant greenkeeper would ideally be competent in the following:
• Correct calibration, mixing and applying of chemicals in accordance with current health and safety legislation.
• Correct calibration and application of granular nutrients and soil amendments
• Competence of all golf course mowing maintenance equipment
• Competence of all other golf course maintenance practices
• Collect Data and able to analyse the results to adjust future maintenance. Including stimp meter, clegg hammer, moisture reading and other data collection product available
• Clear understanding of all SOP’s
• Monitor and Maintain health, safety and security in the workplace
• Responding to emergencies
• Maintain good standards of health and safety for self and others
• An understanding of Toro Irrigating systems
• Identifying and controlling weeds
• Identifying and controlling pests
• Identifying and control of turf diseases and disorders
• Identifying grasses on the golf course
• Marking of hazards, out of bounds and ground under repair
• Undertaking routine machine maintenance
• Preparing machinery for use
• Preparing machinery for storage
