Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the cleaning and tidying of the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ensuring all kitchen equipment and utensils are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
  • Helping to prepare food items as required.
  • Supporting the kitchen staff with general duties to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Maintaining hygiene standards and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cleaning and Tidying:

    • Ensure all kitchen areas (including floors, counters, and equipment) are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
    • Wash pots, pans, utensils, and kitchenware promptly and thoroughly.
    • Clean and sanitise kitchen equipment, surfaces, and appliances regularly.
    • Empty bins and ensure waste is disposed of correctly, in line with school waste disposal protocols.
    • Ensure the correct use and storage of cleaning products, adhering to safety guidelines.
  2. Supporting Food Preparation:

    • Assist kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks as directed.
    • Ensure ingredients are stored correctly and safely.
    • Help prepare ingredients for cooking, such as washing, peeling, or chopping vegetables.
    • Assist with serving food during busy periods, ensuring meals are prepared and served in a timely manner.
  3. Hygiene and Health & Safety:

    • Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations to ensure the kitchen operates safely.
    • Follow school guidelines for food safety and cleanliness.
    • Assist with stock control by ensuring food and cleaning supplies are replenished as necessary.
    • Ensure that all areas of the kitchen are free from hazards, and report any potential safety issues to the Catering Manager.
  4. Team Support:

    • Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently.
    • Assist with unloading deliveries and organizing stock.
    • Be flexible and ready to take on additional duties when required.
  5. General Duties:

    • Support the preparation of school events and functions, helping the catering team where needed.
    • Ensure that all work is carried out promptly to avoid delays in meal service.
    • Maintain a positive attitude, working harmoniously within the kitchen team.
