The JKS Marketing team are seeking a Marketer to lead the ongoing growth and development of Hoppers. Working closely with founder Karan Gokani and the Marketing Director. The ideal candidate will be responsible for growing the brand both domestically and internationally while maintaining brand ethos and integrity.
The Group
Hoppers was founded by JKS Restaurants and Karan Gokani in October 2015. The first Hoppers in Soho was inspired by toddy shops, home cooking and roadside stalls of Sri Lanka and South India, and served its namesake Hoppers alongside Dosas, Kothu, Short Eats, Rice and Roasts. The acclaim soon followed with reviews from London Evening’s Standard’s Fay Maschler and the late Sunday Times critic A.A. Gill who applauded Hoppers for its “seductive, comehither menu” and “spectacular, impressive, authentic, confident and swaggering kitchen”.The restaurant went on to secure its Michelin Bib Gourmand in its first year.
Following the success of Hoppers Soho, a second Hoppers at Marylebone’s St Christopher’s Place, themed around the iconic Tropical Modernist movement of the late Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, opening in September 2017. Hoppers King’s Cross, the third and largest of the three restaurants opened in February 2020 inspired by the much-travelled coastal journey from Colombo, the island’s capital, to the historical Dutch town of Galle.
In the past eight years Hoppers has won several awards and is recognised as one of the leading South Asian restaurant brands in the UK and internationally. Over the coming years, Hoppers has plans to grow across the UK and Internationally providing numerous opportunities for its team members to develop and take on new and exciting roles.
The Role
- Develop and implement a brand strategy that will grow Hoppers and their founder Karan Gokani into market leading global brands.
- Build a comprehensive annual brand marketing roadmap that will support both the growth objectives of each individual restaurant and the brand as a whole
- Lead the execution and implementation marketing initiatives, activations and events (both on and offsite) enabling the Marketing Team to hit long-term and short-term goals
- Work with creative, design and videography teams both internal and freelance to create innovate brand collateral and campaigns which stand out in the market
- Manage junior Marketing and creative team members taking responsibility for their contribution to the successful execution of brand and marketing strategies as well as their professional development
- Manage PR agency partners and ensure they are meeting objectives, providing demonstrable ROI and keeping Hoppers and Karan Gokani at the forefront of any press narratives relevant to the brands
- Strategise, secure and execute creative brand collaborations and partnerships. Be able to create the relationships with other leading brands that share our values and make them a reality
- Strategise and secure commercial media partnership opportunities for the brands and brand founders
- Work with stakeholders and partners across the company to execute marketing, communications and press plans
- Own the marketing and PR budgets with responsibility to demonstrate incremental & positive return on investment
- Own and ensure that brand initiatives are contributing to the commercial success of the business. Be able to demonstrate how brand initiatives are helping drive increased covers and top-line sales
- Continually measure success through key performance metrics and tracking tools to provide market research, forecasts, competitive analysis, campaign results and consumer trends in order to translate results into actionable insights for the team
- Oversee brand, marketing, community engagement, content, social media and events for Hoppers
- Occasionally support other JKS brands as required
Who You Are :
- An up and coming leader and mentor

- A compelling writer able to translate raw ideas from stake holders into narrative brand copy that drives engagement and results
- A passion for restaurants and a keen knowledge of the London scene and global landscape, Sri Lankan and Indian cuisine in particular
- A passion for current social media trends, Tik Tok in particular
- Minimum 3 years (for Marketing Manager level) to 5 years (for Senior Marketing Manager level) experience in brand forward marketing roles in hospitality
- A broad knowledge of marketing across multi-platforms: print, digital, video, social media, local, partnerships and press
- Basic skills with Adobe Indesign required. Basic or higher skills with wider Adobe creative suite a plus
- “iPhone” level content capture skills (photo and video) required
- A proven ability to manage teams and influence multiple stakeholders in a fast-moving, multi-layered business
- Critical thinking, strategic acumen, and market insight
- Organised and able to deliver projects on time while documenting progress along the way
- Experience working on an international brand and/or working, living or traveling to Middle East a plus
